F.A.Q. -- Frequently Asked Questions
About G-Jo Acupressure

Q. Is G-Jo Acupressure a recognized form or system of traditional acupressure? And if so, what is its history?

G-Jo Acupressure is a westernized version of the so-called "ah-shi" or "tender point" style of acupuncture without needles (acupressure). But unlike other systems of acupressure, only one or at the most, several, different G-Jo "acupoints" are briefly "triggered" (deeply massaged) for a complete G-Jo treatment.

The selected G-Jo Acupressure point is typically a tiny, tender area embedded in a bodily depression on either arm, hand, foot or leg. However, there are also G-Jo acupoints found in other parts of the body.

The typical tenderness of a "good" (effective) G-Jo acupoint is usually only discovered by pressing or probing the general area of that acupoint with moderately deep fingertip pressure. Specific pressure is needed, since acupoints are tiny; and missing one by even a fraction of an inch can mean loss of its effectiveness. There are more than 1200 known acupuncture points in the human body. Of these, less than 200 qualify as G-Jo acupoints (which have been chosen for their broad-acting effectiveness).

G-Jo Acupressure was first taught in the West by Michael Blate, co-founder of The G-Jo Institute, in the early 1970's. Following the publication of his first writings on the subject, he then helped establish The G-Jo Institute in 1976. The goal of The G-Jo Institute is to help share this, and other safe, effective "self-health" techniques with people interested in becoming more health self-reliant.

Q. Are there Certified G-Jo Acupressure Masters or Instructors in my area who can teach or treat me with G-Jo Acupressure?

We have many Certified Masters and Instructors of G-Jo Acupressure around the world. But for privacy reasons, the names and contact information of our Masters or others who have communicated with us are never rented or released for other purposes. This has always been our policy. Although, upon request, we may be able to direct you to one of our Certified Instructors.

Further, there is presently no recognized, national certification board for any acupressure "school" or style. Most practitioners operate under the license of another healing modality, such as chiropractic, massage therapy, physical therapy, etc. You may wish to contact several such health care professionals in your area to learn if they are certified in G-Jo Acupressure.

Also, G-Jo Acupressure is an extremely popular subject taught in many martial arts dojos or studios. So you may wish to contact one or more such facilities, too. However, it is not necessary to seek outside assistance to learn or use this powerful healing technique. Our Master of G-Jo Acupressure Home-Study Certification Program is specifically designed to teach everyday people this safe, effective self-health method in a very short time.

And even busy professionals in the healing arts appreciate how quick and easy it is to add certification of G-Jo Acupressure mastery to their other professional qualifications. Many therapists come to use it as their primary treatment modality.

Q. Is your Master of G-Jo Acupressure Home-Study Certification Program approved for continuing education units (CEU's)?

The G-Jo Institute is approved by The National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education provider. Though not registered with any State for CEU's, it is our understanding that this national status is often accepted by individual state boards.

Our Master of G-Jo Acupressure Home-Study Certification Program is approved for 50 contact hours which may translate into CEU's in your state. Please check with your own state's regulatory department for specific information on this.

Q. If I purchase your Master of G-Jo Acupressure Home-Study Certification Program, can my spouse or professional practice partner also become certified as a Master of G-Jo Acupressure?

In order to help spouses -- or partners who may be in a professional practice, together -- it is The G-Jo Institute's present policy to allow the books, tapes and such of a single G-Jo mastery program to be shared with one other individual at the same home or office address. However, each prospective G-Jo Master must take and pass the Certification Examination for him- or herself.

Presently, there is a $50.00 (USD) charge for the second testing and certification service. This additional service may be arranged at the time of original purchase, or at a future date. However, this policy may be subject to change at any time, so please contact The G-Jo Institute for further details or updates about this program.

Q. Do you offer live workshops, classes or seminars in my area?

From time to time, The G-Jo Institute offers short, "outreach" programs in cities around western North Carolina. But we presently do not travel around the USA, or elsewhere, to offer educational or certification seminars. Nor do we presently offer such workshops or classes at DeerHaven Hills Farm, our headquarters. Instead, most of our teaching is now done through our Master of G-Jo Acupressure Home-Study Certification Program. We have learned over the years that, for many reasons, this is a far more effective way to share this remarkably effective self-health technique.

Q. Once I become a Certified Master of G-Jo Acupressure, am I then licensed to publicly practice and charge fees for G-Jo Acupressure in my area?

There is no nationally-recognized certification board for acupressurists of any training, style or system. Because of this, most (if not all) states require some related form of licensure for "hands-on" therapy before one may publicly offer ANY form of acupressure or touch therapy, not just G-Jo.

Chiropractors and other physicians, as well as nurses, massage therapists and physical therapists are those licensed health care professionals who typically purchase our Master of G-Jo Acupressure Home-Study Certification Program. Outside the health care field, martial artists form our largest, identifiable group of G-Jo Acupressure Masters. Martial arts instructors, senseis and sifus often incorporate healing arts' instruction into their regular teaching programs.

But it makes sense for anyone interested in becoming more health self-reliant to master G-Jo Acupressure. The savings in visits to doctors and purchases of medicine, alone, more than justifies the low cost of this unique mastery program.

Q. How and why does G-Jo Acupressure work to heal and relieve suffering?

Only the body (-and-mind) heals itself. G-Jo Acupressure helps the bodymind restore balance to the flow of the life force (or "bioenergy") that causes health (balance) or suffering (imbalance) to occur. Every form of acupressure or natural healing technique simply encourages this normal response of healing (balancing) ... sometimes amazingly fast, at least in the case of G-Jo! G-Jo Acupressure often works in seconds to restore inner energy balance which has deteriorated sometimes over many years.

Yet there is no magic involved with G-Jo Acupressure -- just knowledge ... the knowledge of where and how to trigger the G-Jo acupoints that restore this wonderful, natural balance. If or when that suffering returns, immediately use G-Jo Acupressure, again. Sometimes gradually, but often in moments, even longstanding ailments become a problem of the past.

Q. Do I have to become a Certified Master of G-Jo Acupressure to use or even offer this technique to my patients or clients?

Absolutely not. Certification is primarily for licensed health-care professionals and others who wish to share this healing modality with the public, or with their students, clients or patients. Our Certificate of Mastery is The G-Jo Institute's statement and proof that the named individual has successfully completed our Master of G-Jo Acupressure Certification Program.

This program is straightforward, profusely illustrated and you may take as little or long as you wish to complete it. And there are no limits to the number of times, or how quickly, you can re-apply for certification in the off-chance you need to take our open-book examination more than once. But our certification, though available, is solely at your discretion.

Nonetheless, whether or not you choose to become certified as one of our Masters, you should always complete the Mastery examination that accompanies each Home-Study Program. This exam is a vital learning tool, not a test to challenge your memory.
