OUR DIRECTOR'S
COMMENTARY:
What do most of the several dozen types of headaches that exist
have in common? They all hurt, of course, but there's more: The
majority of all headaches can be promptly relieved using nothing
but the touch of your finger.
In fact, pain in any part of the body can be literally "erased"
within moments, using that ancient Oriental "self-health" technique
called G-Jo Acupressure.
For our new readers, G-Jo -- which means "first-aid" in Chinese
-- is a form of acupuncture, but without the needles. Instead,
deep pressure is used on one or more tiny therapy spots or "acupoints."
Typically, these are buried in soft hollows or depressions scattered
around the body.
There are many such acupoints -- at least 1200 are known. Each
point "controls" one or more specific bodily areas or functions.
When pain or other dysfunctions arise in a part of the body,
deeply massaging the acupoint(s) which control that area help
to "unblock" the flow of a special energy ("ki," "qi" or "ch'i,"
the same force that makes the heart beat with life). As proper
energy flow is restored, pain vanishes and health returns.
This, in a nutshell, is G-Jo Acupressure.
The most difficult part is knowing which acupoint(s) control
what area of the body. With headaches, for example, there are
at least 20 important G-Jo acupoints for relieving (and often
healing) the many types of headache that Western medicine has
identified.
Fortunately, there are several broad-acting acupoints -- known
as "cookbook points" -- which are typically tried first ... and
which often produce immediate, profound results. These are illustrated
and identified in our free, beginner's course in G-Jo Acupressure
found at www.g-jo.com/points.html. (And, of course, ALL headache
-- and other G-Jo -- relief points are fully described in our
Master of G-Jo Acupressure
Home-Study Certification Program.)
One such point is the subject of this issue: G-Jo point number
13.
This is one of the best-known, and most broad-acting, of all
the body's many acupoints. Find this powerful healing spot by
placing your right hand so the palm faces the floor. Squeeze your
thumb tightly against your pointer finger so a fleshy mound pops
up on the back of the right hand between those, two fingers.
Place the tip -- not the pad or fleshy part -- of your left thumb
(or the bent knuckle of the left index finger or even the eraser
tip of a pencil) on top of that mound. Keeping that thumb tip
(or other "triggering" tool) in place, relax your right hand and
begin pressing deeply in that area until you feel a tender "ouch"
point.
The more it hurts the better it is likely to be for your kind
of headache.
Now trigger the point deeply, in a digging or goading fingertip
massage. Do this for 15 or 20 seconds on the right hand, then
stop and duplicate the process on the back of your left hand.
If the headache pain is eased but not quite gone, simply trigger
those same acupoints for another few seconds and test again.
A profound sense of relief often happens upon stimulating a good
acupoint. Stop triggering the point as soon as this reaction occurs
(usually within half a minute or less). In any event, triggering
for more than a minute or so is usually unnecessary.
While acupressure is safe and natural, I always suggest that
before using acupressure (or any other self-health method), you
first check with your doctor if you are:
- A pregnant woman (especially beyond the third month of pregnancy);
- A chronic heart patient (especially if you are fitted with
a pacemaker or other electronic regulating device);
- Or a person suffering from a serious illness, such as cancer
or diabetes, particularly if taking medication for the condition.
So the next time you're suffering from a headache, don't grab
the aspirin bottle -- reach for a G-Jo Acupressure point, instead.
It's what I've been using for decades -- not doctors or medicines.

NEWS ...
The media has widely reported the appearance in the USA of "Mad
Cow Disease" or bovine spongiform encephalitis (BSE). Only several
cases or suspected cases of the disease are said to have been
found. The concern, of course, is that humans eating tainted meat
could develop a fatal brain disorder.
However, what has NOT been widely reported is that the brain
illness known as Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) -- the human
form of BSE (which is often misdiagnosed as Alzheimer's Disease)
-- has been killing an alarming number of Americans each year.
Nor is either disease new -- they've both been around and widespread
for decades (just ask any cattle rancher about the "downers" in
his herd).
Could CJD be linked to BSE-tainted meat, milk and cheese? A growing
number of doctors think so, especially since neither disease has
been followed by medical science until recently.
It is not our purpose to debate this issue or to raise more alarms.
However, for anyone concerned about his or her family's well-being,
we suggest avoiding ALL animal products -- slaughtered OR dairy
(including refined sugar, which has a long history of being whitened
with bone meal). Both meat and dairy products are said to be capable
of carrying BSE.
A healthy and humane vegetarian diet means more than just eating
salads. With a little training, a new, wide world of even gourmet
dining is possible. To help in the transition to a vegetarian
diet, we have produced an important Self-Health Report: "Dynamic
Nutrition! The Acugenics Way of Eating For Pleasure and Health."
Here, you'll find ways to substitute sugar, dairy and meat with
healthful alternatives so enjoyable that even finicky eaters are
happy. The price is $24.95 (+ shipping & handling) and is
fully guaranteed, of course.

& EVEN MORE NEWS ...
In case you hadn't noticed, tea and coffee houses are making
a big splash -- maybe thanks to Starbucks. Whatever the reason,
it's a trend which we heartily endorse! For us, tea is the epitome
of health -- without it, life would simply be ... glum.
Recent investigations in our own region have turned up three
outstanding places to sip cuppas while enjoying conversation,
books or just views of interesting, attractive people.
- The Peaceful Dragon (Charlotte, NC www.thepeacefuldragon.com
) -- a unique and beautiful Japanese-style setting which combines
a vast selection of tea with a vegan restaurant, Oriental gift
shop and -- in its own, soundproof area -- a martial arts dojo
(which sippers & diners can observe from behind glass)! Free
lectures on all aspects of alternative healing, Eastern wisdom
and similar topics are featured many Saturday nights. A truly
amazing place!
- The Essence of Thyme (Brevard, NC; learn more by going
to www2.brevard.edu/reynoljh/EoT/Thyme.htm
) -- a funky little spot on East Main Street, the main drag
of this lovely college town. Rickety tables & chairs notwithstanding,
this colorful emporium magnetically attracts a weird & wacky
collection of musicians, artists and other characters from miles,
around. Thick, chocolate whipped cream is a house specialty
-- that should tell you something. And with all the musical
instruments in the shop, pick-up musical sessions happen many
nights.
- Amma's Chai House & Vedic Bookstore (2179-B Lawrenceville
Highway, North Dekalb Square Shopping Center, Decatur GA www.ammaschai.com
) -- this new, Atlanta-area teahouse offers something for every
lover of East Indian culture. There is a meditation room with
pictures of many popular gurus and spiritual teachers; bookshelves
filled with works on yoga, ayurveda and Vedanta; and wonderful
cups of chai -- that sweet Indian tea blended with special spices
and milk -- as well as organic snacks and the more prosaic coffee.
Chanting, bhajans and kirtan (sacred music) happen on a variety
of evenings. Call or e-write for schedule and hours: jessearana@comcast.net

Do you know of a great tea or coffee house you want to share
with our worldwide group of readers. Let us know and we'll pass
it along in an upcoming issue. Just e-write office@g-jo.com

TESTIMONIAL DU JOUR:
"I am a registered massage therapist here in Texas.
When I became a Master of [G-Jo] acupressure I immediately began
incorporating the techniques into my regular massage sessions
and have had absolutely fantastic results. One of my best clients
came to me about 6 months ago stating that she had been having
migraine headaches for over a year. She had been to doctors, and
other healers, and had even had CAT scans done but could find
nothing wrong. She came to me and after 2 treatments with a combination
of massage and G-Jo acupressure she has NO MORE headaches and
has not had even the slightest headache for the past 5 months.
She is much more alert and happier now that she is no longer in
pain." D.H.,. Austin, TX

OTHER FREE E-PUBLICATIONS
FROM THE G-JO INSTITUTE:
Are you a spiritual seeker yearning to discover
the Highest Secrets of life? It is said that these will be found
in "The Bhagavad-Gita" -- a 5,000 year old guidebook that is the
basis of "Spiritual Yoga."
Spiritual yoga is not a religion, but a science
-- a science of knowledge, mind-upliftment and action. It has
nothing to do with exercise, but is the underlying basis of the
yoga classes which have become so popular lately.
"The Bhagavad-Gita" has had hundreds of translations
and millions of readers over the past, five millennia. This remarkable
handbook is a training manual for both spiritual warriors and
spiritual peacemakers -- one that is useful for people of all
faiths and religions.
It is nothing less than a roadmap to life's ultimate
purpose.
Michael Blate, our Executive Director, has written
a revealing commentary on "The Bhagavad-Gita" and we send out
portions of it freely each week to a special opt-in list of seekers
of wisdom. To opt-in, yourself, please send an e-mail to office@g-jo.com
with "subscribe gita" in the "subject" line.
This is a continuously-revolving presentation, so
even if you begin in the middle of the series, it will eventually
recycle to your starting point.

AN INTRODUCTION TO YOUR
G-JO POINTS:
G-JO POINT NUMBER 13 / Large Intestine or
Colon point 4 / LI-4 / X 4 / "Union Valley" (or "Ho Ku," "Tiger's
Mouth," "Uniting Bones" or "Holding Mouth" -- these translations
are taken from "Grasping The Wind," by Andrew Ellis, Nigel Wiseman
and Kenn Boss; Paradigm Publications).
ORGAN(S) THIS POINT AFFECTS: Colon; urinary
bladder;
ACTION THIS POINT PRODUCES: Balancing (colon);
stimulating (urinary bladder).
LOCATION: In the webbing between the thumb
and forefinger; squeeze the two together, and place a finger atop
the mound that is formed. Keep your finger on the mound and relax
your hand; then begin the stimulation (see more complete instructions
in "OUR DIRECTOR'S COMMENTARY," above,
and illustration at www.g-jo.com/points.html
).
USES: This G-Jo point has at least 50 Basic
G-Jo uses, one of which is for the relief of headaches, as described
above (and this is just one of a number of G-Jo Acupressure points
for that use).
INSTRUCTIONS: To find this point upon yourself,
first read the instructions. Then, using the TIP of the thumb,
the bent knuckle of the index (or pointer) finger -- even the
eraser tip of a pencil -- begin pressing the approximate location
upon your own body.
Use deep pressure -- up to 15 or 20 lbs.
might be needed to both to find and "trigger" this G-Jo point,
as it is in a muscle of the hand. The point itself, once contacted,
will normally feel like a toothache or pinched nerve -- definitely
more tender than the surrounding flesh.
Finally, trigger (deeply massage) this spot in a
digging, goading way for a few seconds. Again, it should feel
a bit painful. Then find and trigger the same spot on the opposite
hand.
G-Jo Point #13, and nearly 200 others, are

A WAY OF EATING FOR PLEASURE
AND HEALTH: Each issue, we present a wholesome, nutritious
recipe which our family, friends and guests have enjoyed over
the years at both Falkynor Farm, and more recently, here, at DeerHaven
Hills Farm & Yoga Eco-Center.
A SELECTION OF SPRING VEGETABLE SIDE DISHES
EACH SERVES FOUR TO SIX
STEAMED ASPARAGUS
2 lbs fresh asparagus spears
2 Tbsp. Butter or soy margarine (or to taste)
1 Tbsp. Lemon juice (or to taste)
Herbamare (a delicious seasoned salt that we use for just about
everything), to taste
Prepare asparagus by washing under cool running
water, then, holding the tip end in one hand and base end in the
other, gently bend the spear until it snaps in two, discarding
the base end. This simple procedure will yield the most tender
part of the asparagus.
Just before serving, steam in a basket over boiling
water for 2 to 5 minutes, depending on thickness of spears and
how crunchy (or not) you prefer. Check with tip of knife for desired
tenderness and transfer to serving bowl.
Meanwhile, melt butter in small saucepan; add lemon
juice and Herbamare. Drizzle over steamed asparagus, gently turning
to coat. Serve hot.
RAPINI (ALSO KNOWN AS BROCCOLI RABE); BITTER
GREENS ARE A WONDERFUL SPRING TONIC
2 bunches rapini (looks like a lot, but cooks way
down)
2 - 3 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil, plus extra as desired
1 Tbsp. Lemon juice, or to taste
Herbamare, to taste
Hot pepper oil, if desired
Rinse rapini well, then remove tough stem ends and
discard. Holding a handful of stems at a time, chop into half-inch
pieces.
Heat olive oil in large skillet or saucepan (you'll
need a lid). Add rapini, tossing to coat, and saute a few minutes,
stirring occasionally. Add 1/4 cup water (or more, as needed),
cover and steam until desired tenderness, about 10-12 minutes.
Add lemon juice, Herbamare and a drizzle of hot pepper oil, if
desired, at end of cooking. Stir to coat, then heat 1 to 2 minutes
to blend flavors. Serve hot or at room temperature (even cold).
MUSTARD GREENS
2 bunches mustard greens (like all greens, this
looks like a lot, but cooks way down)
1 cup chopped sweet onion (we take advantage of Vidalias being
in season)
One half package smoky tempeh (Fakin' Bakin' is the brand we use),
diced
2 - 3 Tbsp. Mustard oil (available at Indian grocers) or olive
oil
1/4 cup Vidalia onion mustard
2 Tbsp. Light molasses (not blackstrap -- we like sourghum)
2 - 3 Tbsp. Lemon juice, or to taste
Herbamare, to taste
Rinse greens well in several changes of water (they
can be very sandy). Remove tough stem ends. Coarsely chop greens
into approximate 1-inch pieces.
Heat oil over medium heat until hot. Add onions
and saute for a minute or two, then add tempeh and cook until
onions are golden. Add greens with water clinging to leaves, mixing
with onions and tempeh; saute for a few minutes until wilted and
stems tender. You may need to add additional water and/or cover
to reach desired tenderness.
Stir in mustard, molasses, lemon juice and Herbamare.
Simmer a couple minutes to blend flavors. Serve hot, warm or cold.
(Leftovers are delicious right out of the fridge).

KNOW YOUR ORGANS:
LARGE INTESTINE (COLON), continued ...
In earlier issues, we have briefly discussed the
fact that each organ or gland is more active in one or another
two-hour period of each day. Aside from its diagnostic value,
one practical use for knowing the organ's most active/sensitive
time of day is to consciously use that time to allow the organ
to "do its job" best.
In the case of the colon, this means it is best
to move one's bowels between 5:00 and 7:00 in the morning. If
that is inconvenient, another good time is at the opposite side
of the clock, namely between 5:00 and 7:00 P.M. (1700 - 1900 hours).
These are the times when the large intestine will tend to cleanse
itself most completely.
The movement of the bowels, incidentally, is controlled
primarily by the liver (and gallbladder). This makes constipation
not just a colon disorder, but a liver dysfunction, as well.
Bowels move at different "speeds" for different
diets. In a diet based on much processed and refined foods, such
as the typical American diet, the start-to-finish digestion process
takes about three days.
In diets where more natural and whole food is generally
consumed, the complete process -- from chewing to bowel movement
-- often takes a day or less. With a strictly vegetarian diet
in low-stress conditions, the stool -- which is one of nature's
best diagnostic indicators -- is generally a golden color, has
a non-objectionable odor and tends to float.
In a meat-based (anything slaughtered) diet, the
stool smells foul, tends to sink, and is an off-color.
And in a diet rich in processed foods, the stool
may weigh a scant few ounces, whereas in a natural, vegetarian
diet, the stool may weigh up to a pound.
All the body's major organs and glands, along with their many
functions, are completely described in the Advanced G-Jo section
of "The Master of G-Jo Acupressure Home-Study Certification Program."
