OUR DIRECTOR'S
COMMENTARY:
Last issue, I began the story of the origins of G-Jo Acupressure.
You may recall that I had first been introduced to both the disabling
AND healing power of the body's many pressure points in my Shodokan-style
karate training during the early 1960's.
Later, I found -- and purchased -- a huge library of books on
the subject of acupuncture and its older brother, acuPRESSURE,
in a London book store. This was during our first stop in a round-the-world
family car trip, in 1972 -- an adventure that ultimately lasted
more than a year ... and proved to be my "medical school" training
in the ancient healing art of "acupuncture without needles."
For during our travels, I drove by day and studied acupuncture
and acupressure by night. Using my children and myself as "living
laboratories," I regularly put into practice the methods and techniques
I was learning in my studies.
Upon finally returning home, I had become quite knowledgeable
in the subject of the body's many acupuncture points and their
uses. But it took a major accident to truly open my eyes to the
awesome healing power of acupressure ... and to forge my commitment
to this timeless technique of health self-sufficiency.
That happened in 1973, at our small, organic egg farm near Fort
Lauderdale. My children and I were hoisting a large, metal roost
to its new home in a tall shed; they were using a heavy steel
ladder as a jack to hold the nesting boxes in place as I wired
these cages to their supports.
For some unknown reason, the children let go of the ladder too
soon and it came crashing down onto my face, barely missing my
eye but slicing neatly through the side of my nose and cutting
deep into my gum! It was as if I had just been hit head-on with
an axe!
The shock, pain and burst of blood were so intense, I nearly
passed out!
But I kept my senses long enough to -- almost instinctively,
by then -- grab for an especially powerful acupressure point on
the back of my hand (G-Jo point #13 -- see below). Massaging the
point deeply and vigorously for less than a minute, first on one
hand, then the other, to my utter amazement the pain -- then even
the BLEEDING -- simply ... stopped!
And though the pain and bleeding soon returned, I just "triggered"
that same point on either hand, again, for a few seconds. And
again, the relief immediately followed.
Curiously, this astonishing "relief time" lasted longer and longer,
after each time I repeated this simple procedure.
To aid the process, I also triggered another point which I knew
to be effective for certain problems of the face and head: G-Jo
point #4. And between these two -- along with a small butterfly
bandage I applied to hold the two sides of my nose together --
I decided to put the power of acupressure to a real test.
I did not go to an emergency room. I did not seek any medical
attention, though a doctor friend assured me that a wound of this
size and severity would normally have needed at least 18 stitches.
In fact, I used nothing more than acupressure to speed the healing
process over the next, few days. And, as I recall, to really give
this technique a serious test, I even avoided applying iodine
or other common antiseptics.
Bottom line: The wound healed quickly and cleanly, with no trace
of infection. And today, only the tiniest of scars remains to
remind me of one of the most important turning points in my life:
The day I said "goodbye" to doctors, drugs, hospitals and even
health care insurance!
Of course, that's an awfully bold step to take -- and I don't
suggest you do this, yourself ... at least, not unless you're
well-trained in this powerful, ancient healing method, known as
G-Jo Acupressure. Plus, doctors and conventional health care can
surely play an important role in most peoples' lives, especially
for such problems as setting broken bones effectively.
Still, it's good to know that you CAN heal yourself, as well
as your loved ones and others, even under the most dire of conditions.
Next issue, I'll tell you the story of how G-Jo entered millions
of lives ... maybe including your own. Until then, be well!

TESTIMONIAL DU JOUR:
"I had suffered from severe heel pain, usually
referred to as 'Plantar Fasciitis' in the medical world, '˜heel
spurs' to the rest of us. Actually, the medical community isn't
even completely sure what causes this in all cases. But I was
only concerned with the pain, and I don't like to see doctors.
This pain can be almost crippling, especially in the early morning
... I didn't know what to do.
Then I remembered I had ordered basic G-Jo [the
Master's program] ... I retrieved it and immediately found descriptions
of two relevant points. I decided to try those two, both legs,
each evening for a few minutes, following all the recommendations
for how to press, etc. By the third day, the heel pain was entirely
gone, and has never recurred (now three years later). Unbelievable!"

NEWS AND SPECIAL OFFERS:
The urinary bladder, the subject of this issue,
is injured (imbalanced) by excessive sexual activity. But how
much is excessive?
An interesting Oriental theory (Tibetan) holds
that, at least for males -- who are by far the more physically
injured through too many sexual climaxes -- may ejaculate as often
as three times a day, without detrimental effects on the health
... but only in winter (i.e., cold weather).
In summer, however -- or any hot weather -- ejaculating
only once every two weeks should be the maximum. In the spring,
fall or during other moderate weather, sexual climax is best restricted
to a maximum of once every other day in order to avoid damaging
the delicate balance of the kidney/urinary bladder organ team
energy.
And the Tibetans are not alone in this viewpoint.
Other Oriental societies have their own, similar restrictions,
based not on morality but on physical health ... particularly
the male's.
For a more in-depth view of -- and methods for improving
-- sexual pleasure (for both males and females) based on Eastern
concepts, please see our special Self-Health Report, BETTER SEX
WITH ACUGENICS (available only from The G-Jo Institute, $24.95,
+ shipping & handling).
IMPORTANT NEWS FOR MASSAGE THERAPISTS:
The G-Jo Institute is approved by the National
Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB)
as a continuing education provider. Although we are not registered
with any state for CEU's, it is our understanding that the NCBTMB
status is often accepted by individual state boards. The "Master
of G-Jo Acupressure Home-Study Certification Program" typically
takes about 50 contact hours to complete.

AN INTRODUCTION TO YOUR
G-JO POINTS:
G-Jo Acupressure Point Number 3
MERIDIAN POINT NUMBER: Urinary Bladder 54
(UB-54 or III 54)
CHINESE NAME: "Sequential Limit" (This translation
is taken from "Grasping The Wind," by Andrew Ellis, Nigel Wiseman
and Kenn Boss; Paradigm Publications.)
LOCATION: In the center of the crease at
the rear of the knee, between the two ligaments. DO NOT USE
THIS POINT IF YOU HAVE VARICOSE VEINS.
USES: This point has at least 23 uses, two
of which are abdominal pain and lower back pain (and this is just
one of many G-Jo points for those, specific ailments). In the
case of pain in the lower back, this point is also often used
with G-Jo Point Number 5, by first "triggering" (see below) one
G-Jo point, then the other. The order in which they are triggered
is not usually important.
INSTRUCTIONS: To find this point on yourself,
first read about the location site, above. Then, using the TIP
of the thumb, the bent knuckle of the index (or pointer) finger
-- even the eraser tip of a pencil -- begin pressing the approximate
location upon your own leg.
Use deep pressure -- up to 15 or 20 lbs.
might be needed to both to find and trigger some G-Jo points.
The point itself, once contacted, will feel normally like a toothache
or pinched nerve -- definitely more tender than the surrounding
flesh ... especially if this is a "good" point for your problem
or target symptom.
Finally, trigger (deeply massage) this spot in a
digging, goading way for a few seconds. Again, it should feel
a bit painful. Then find and trigger the same spot on the opposite
side leg. Reminder: Do NOT use this point if you have varicose
veins.

A WAY OF EATING FOR PLEASURE
AND HEALTH: Each issue, we present a wholesome, nutritious
recipe which our family, friends and guests have enjoyed over
the years at both Falkynor Farm, and more recently, here, at DeerHaven
Hills Farm & Yoga Eco-Center. Here is one of our "staples" which
we serve in a variety of ways (over pasta or rice, or simply in
soup bowls with crackers or bread:
TOFU-VEGETABLE STEW
Serves 4
1 lb. tofu, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 Tbsp. olive oil
1/4 cup tamari, soy sauce or Bragg's Liquid Aminos
1/4 cup olive oil
1 cup each sliced onion, carrot and celery
1 clove garlic, minced (optional)
1 cup shredded cabbage
1 1/2 cups sliced yellow squash and/or zucchini
2 tomatoes, diced
2 cups tomato juice
1 1/2 tsp. DRIED or
1 Tbsp. chopped FRESH basil
1/4 tsp. summer savory
1 bay leaf
Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over
medium high heat. Add tofu and saute, turning occasionally, until
browned. Stir in tamari and set aside to marinate.
In a large soup pot, saute the onions, carrots,
celery and garlic in 1/4 cup olive oil until tender. Add the remaining
ingredients, except tofu. Simmer for 15 to 20 minutes until vegetables
are tender. Remove bay leaf. Add tofu and marinade and continue
simmering for five minutes to warm through. Season to taste with
salt and freshly ground pepper. (To add "sparkle," a little lemon
juice or hot sauce may also be added at this point). Serve as
described above, along with a fresh garden salad. Serves 4.

KNOW YOUR ORGANS:
THE URINARY BLADDER
The urinary bladder is the "organ-mate" of the kidneys.
That "organ team" helps to regulate the flow and condition of
the body's water. This is a key, bodily function, since more than
90% of the physical body is composed of water.
Physically, the urinary bladder stores and releases
the body's surplus fluids as urine. But closely associated with
this function of releasing fluids is that of sexuality -- its
drive, activity and fulfillment.
This is one of the most important functions ascribed
to this mated organ team. It is so important, in fact, we have
created an entire "Self-Health Report" on the subject of increasing
sexual pleasure through the use of G-Jo Acupressure and other
easy, self-help techniques.
This highlights an important difference between
conventional Western medicine and that of the traditional East.
In the ancient medicines of the Orient, as we have begun to see
in earlier issues, each organ team is also responsible for the
EMOTIONS we feel, as well as the physical sensations.
This is done through the bodymind's biochemistry.
Each organ team is "responsible" for creating, neutralizing and
destroying many -- sometimes HUNDREDS -- of biochemicals. And
just as a person thinks and acts differently when his or her bloodstream
is high in alcohol, so each and every biochemical has a similar
effect on both the body and mind. Just usually not so pronounced.
For example, the power of "free will" can easily
suffer when the kidneys and urinary bladder are malfunctioning
and out of balance. So a kind of "acupressure psychotherapy" may
be applied to the acupressure points controlling these organs
to help improve the sense of will-power, determination and ambition.
We will learn more about this unique idea of biochemistry
affecting our thoughts (and because of this, perhaps even our
destiny) in upcoming issues. But for the moment, let's stay with
the physical body.
Bones and ears are several of the so-called "children"
of the urinary bladder-kidneys organ team. Thus, problems with
either bones, the ears, themselves, or hearing are closely associated
with the imbalance and malfunction of those childrens' "parents"
-- that vital team of organs.
In like manner, problems with the hair on the head
(such as dandruff and baldness) reflect imbalance -- too much
or not enough activity -- in these organs. So does all lower back
distress (sciatica, lumbago, "low back pain" syndrome, distress
arising from sexual frustration, etc.).
There are other such little-known connections, too,
between this organ team and other bodily areas and functions.
These are more completely described in the "Advanced G-Jo" Section
of "The Master of G-Jo Acupressure Home-Study Certification Program."
Please contact us for details.
To be continued ...
All the body's major organs and glands, along with their many
functions, are completely described in the Advanced G-Jo section
of "The Master of G-Jo Acupressure Home-Study Certification Program."
Please contact us for details.
