Correction:
Last issue (#3), it was mentioned that the body was composed
of at least 90% water -- it should have read AT LEAST 70% WATER
(thanks to the several readers who alerted us to this typo --
gold stars on their foreheads for paying attention!). In fact,
according to the "Energy Medicine" theory -- the basis of acupuncture,
acupressure and other subtle healing modalities -- it is believed
the body is actually 100% ENERGY!
And it is for this reason that energy healing methods (also including
homeopathy, Sanjeevini and many other techniques) can perform
their often miraculous results. It is because they work on the
energy (meridian) system of the body-&-mind (bodymind).

OUR DIRECTOR'S
COMMENTARY:
In prior issues, I began to explain how I "discovered" G-Jo Acupressure
and made it the consuming passion of my life. My first exposure
to the powerful healing benefits of acupressure had been in the
1960's, through my training in the martial arts.
Later, while driving around the world with my children, I purchased
-- and at night, studied -- a vast library of books on acupuncture
and its "older brother," acuPRESSURE. It was to be a major
turning point in my life.
You may also recall that, by 1974, I had already proven acupressure's
awesome healing power to myself, my children and even to a few,
tolerant (but initially-skeptical) friends. I had liberally applied
that special "pain that hurts good" to "reverse" (heal) an assortment
of problems, ranging from the minor "aspirin" variety to serious
emergencies.
In my studies, I had learned that this ancient, yet timeless
"self-health" method had been used by families throughout the
East -- in one form or another -- since the beginning of recorded
history. And bolstered by my growing storehouse of direct experiences
and dramatic successes, my knowledge and confidence in this free,
completely natural healing method had grown by leaps and bounds.
I was healing health problems, right and left! Inspired, I wanted
to tell everyone I met about this miracle of healing that I had
learned in my travels!
Soon, I was ready to heal the world!
I began to think about how I could best share this knowledge
with the world at large ... at least its Western part. It seemed
so obvious that, with just a little work, the world would beg
-- yes, BEG! -- to know this wondrous secret I now possessed.
Well, not exactly.
Bringing an essentially foreign healing modality to America --
a country which dotes on scientific explanations and rationales
(of which I had none) -- proved much harder than I could have
ever imagined. Frankly, I didn't even know where to begin.
After several failed efforts, I finally started to teach small
workshops on acupressure in the only place that would have me.
It was called Cornucopia, a local "growth center" which was responsible
for bringing much of the language, music and methods of the "alternative"
and hippie lifestyle into the Dade and Broward Counties of Florida
during the early 1970's.
Housed in a crumbling, old three-story mansion on Miami's Bayshore
Drive, my first classes competed with subjects like UFO alien
abductions, tantric meditation for couples and a host of New Age
"touchy-feely" encounters with the most forward of South Florida's
thinkers.
To better serve my students, I began to catalog the body's hundreds
of acupoints. I further cross-referenced them with the seemingly-endless
number of symptoms and ailments these points had both reputedly
-- and also in my own, growing experience -- actually cured.
This precious list started as a small box of index cards, then
became a hand-written reference manual ... and finally, in 1976,
my first, actual book: "The G-Jo Handbook."
I coined the name "G-Jo" (pronounced "GEE-joh") from the Chinese
characters which mean "first aid" or "emergency save your life."
The term came from the owner of a Chinese restaurant, a friend
who had originally come to Miami from Hong Kong.
The concept of "first aid" was important to me: I wasn't promoting
G-Jo -- then or now -- as a complete alternative to conventional
medical care for serious health problems. To be sure, G-Jo has
had a host of "miraculous cures"; but doctors certainly have their
place, too (I wouldn't want to try setting a broken bone using
only G-Jo, for example).
But with that book, and the growing acceptance of acupuncture
and acupressure in America, I made a commitment to myself that
would direct my life until this, very day. I promised myself I
would make G-Jo Acupressure a widespread healing practice in the
West, no matter how long it took.
Even back then, it was estimated that more than 30% of all Americans
were lacking health care insurance, and that figure was rising
each year. Today, more than 75 million people find themselves
in that leaky boat, according to Dr. Joe Mercola's excellent e-newsletter
(see below).
So I knew I had my life's work cut out for me! But I also knew
that if anything could relieve this desperate social plight, it
would surely be G-Jo Acupressure! So I set out, armed only with
knowledge and my fingertips, ready to heal this suffering world.
To be continued ...

TESTIMONIAL DU JOUR:
"My daughter was visiting. We had planned a beach
picnic days before and were all prepared. She came down with acute
gastroenteritis and was up the entire night very sick indeed--despite
prescribed medication and carbon pills. Then it dawned on me that
I could use G-Jo! I ran for the book, applied the First Aid acupoints
for Diarrhea and every symptom STOPPED in 5 minutes! We had a
lovely day swimming, sunbathing, walking and she could eat everything!"

From The G-Jo Institute
Yoga classes have become extremely popular, in recent
years. But what few people realize is that yoga's stretches and
bends are just the "iceberg's tip" of a massive system of thought
and action whose roots go back countless generations.
Not a religion, yoga is a spiritual science whose
goal is the upliftment and transformation of the mind. To accomplish
this, a variety of little-known truths and simple practices are
combined to hoist oneself to the peak of his or her potential.
And for more than 5,000 years, people following
the pathway of "spiritual yoga" have turned to "The Bhagavad-Gita"
for inspiration, guidance and wisdom on their journey. Here, millions
have learned about such mysterious concepts as "karma," "reincarnation,"
"enlightenment" and many other beliefs which have become staples
of The East.
Now you, too, can learn yoga's profound secrets
-- for free, at your own computer terminal -- with weekly passages
from Michael Blate's "A Yogi Explains 'The Bhagavad-Gita': Enlightenment
for the New Millennium." Each Tuesday, a new, thought-provoking
excerpt is delivered by e-mail to a special list of spiritual
seekers.
To opt onto this list, yourself, please send an
e-mail to office@g-jo.com
with "subscribe gita" in the "subject" line. This is a continuously-revolving
presentation, so even if you begin in the middle of the series,
it will eventually recycle to your starting point.

AN INTRODUCTION TO YOUR
G-JO POINTS:
G-Jo Acupressure Point Number 4
MERIDIAN POINT NUMBER: Triple Warmer or
Tri-Heater 5 (TW-5 or VI 5)
CHINESE NAME: "Outer Pass" (This translation
is taken from "Grasping The Wind," by Andrew Ellis, Nigel Wiseman
and Kenn Boss; Paradigm Publications)
LOCATION: The WIDTH of two thumbs above the
most prominent crease on the "hairy side" of the wrist -- that
is, on the outside, lower forearm, moving up, toward your elbow
-- in approximate line with the middle finger.
USES: This point has at least 50 uses, several
of which are for problems of the hand and the chest, including
coughing.
INSTRUCTIONS: To find this point upon yourself,
place your hand with the palm facing the floor. Then, using the
TIP of the thumb, the bent knuckle of the index (or pointer) finger
-- even the eraser tip of a pencil -- begin pressing the approximate
location upon the hairy side of your lower forearm.
Use deep pressure -- up to 15 or 20 lbs.
might be needed to both to find and "trigger" this G-Jo point.
The point, itself, will be found in a small hollow between the
two arm bones (the radius and the ulna). Once contacted, it will
feel like a toothache or pinched nerve -- definitely more tender
than the surrounding flesh.
Next, trigger (deeply massage) this spot in a digging,
goading way for a few seconds. Again, it should feel a bit painful.
Finally, find and trigger the same spot on the opposite
arm. This powerful G-Jo point is also illustrated at
www.g-jo.com/points.html .
G-Jo Point #4, and nearly 200 others, are fully
illustrated and described in "The Master of G-Jo Acupressure Home-Study
Certification Program." Purchase

KNOW YOUR ORGANS:
TRIPLE-WARMER, TRI-HEATER or THREE BURNING SPACES:
In past issues, you have learned that each of the
12 major, inner organs and glands is paired with another, so that
there are six "organ couples" or "teams" found in the human body.
This pairing of organs is something not generally recognized by
Western doctors, but is a key ingredient in the practice of "energy
medicine," the basis of acupuncture and Advanced G-Jo Acupressure.
Normally, these organ teams or glandular pairs have
a close physical connection -- the liver and gall bladder, for
example, are essentially in contact with each other. However,
the Triple-Warmer and its mate -- the so-called "pericardium"
or "heart-protector" -- are different.
Both the Triple-Warmer and pericardium (which will
be discussed more deeply in future issues) are FUNCTIONS, rather
than the actual organs or glands, themselves. Like its mate, the
Triple Warmer -- also called the Tri-Burner or "three burning
spaces" (namely, the upper, middle and lower torso) -- is a process
intimately associated with SEVERAL organ teams.
You could say that the Triple Warmer's purpose --
as the name implies -- is to create, regulate and sustain warmth
within. It does this through the process of digestion.
That is, the body must maintain a fairly precise
and narrow range of internal temperature. Otherwise, numerous
symptoms -- and eventually death, if the temperature range is
too extreme -- will occur.
Of course, like all organs, glands and its companion
function, this is a very simplistic explanation of the Tri-Heater
-- this Triple Warmer function performs or participates in numerous
other processes, too. Yet while it is not possible to completely
disassociate any one organ or organ team from its companions,
it is relatively easy to sense how one pair of organs or glands
could more greatly influence a particular function than might
another.
Such is the case of the Tri-Heater.
The Triple-Warmer is predominantly a triangular
interaction between three of the five actual organ teams. The
first "point" of this vital triangle is the lung team (which includes
the colon or large intestine): This team controls the temperature
and "digestion" of air, our most vital "food."
The second of the three components of this digestive
triangle is the stomach and spleen team (including the pancreas).
Their connection with the digestion of food is more apparent,
at least in the stomach's case.
Less is known about the spleen and its conjoined
pancreas, at least by Western medical science. Doctors occasionally
even remove the spleen from surgical patients ... which would
horrify traditional energy doctors! The spleen and pancreas --
actually a single gland to energy doctors -- are considered to
be the "home" of the ego or sense of self, among its (or their)
many other uses.
The final point of this special triangular interaction
is the liver/gallbladder team. Even in Western medicine, the liver,
alone, is thought to be responsible for dozens of biochemicals
and crucial bodily functions.
The remaining two organ teams -- the heart/small
intestine and the kidney/urinary bladder -- are less involved
with digestion than with other functions, such as circulation
of bodily fluids and the responsibility for one's sexual drive.
But all organs and glands involved with the intake and processing
of food in any form are at least indirectly affected by the Tri-Burner
function.
To be continued ...
All the body's major organs and glands, along with their many
functions, are completely described in the Advanced G-Jo section
of "The Master of G-Jo Acupressure Home-Study Certification Program."
