OUR DIRECTOR'S
COMMENTARY:
In previous issues, I began telling the story about how an ancient,
Oriental self-health technique -- acupuncture without needles,
or acuPRESSURE -- made its way into widespread use in America.
Acupressure is now perhaps the most commonly used of the many
"alternative medicine" healing techniques which have become so
popular, today. This is because of its ease of application plus
its remarkable effectiveness for treating a wide variety of health
disorders.
There are several forms of acupressure and each is somewhat different
than the others. But most of these methods "arrived" on America's
shores around the same time -- in the early 1970's -- though by
diverse routes.
The system known as G-Jo Acupressure found its way into the West
when I returned home from driving around the world with my two
children in 1973. I had amassed a medical library on Eastern healing
methods -- especially acupressure -- during our travels and had
studied these reference manuals voraciously ... when we weren't
driving or walking, that is.
This was not out of mere curiosity, however. In many parts of
the world that we visited, my family and I had to actually become
our own doctors, because of language barriers, lack of drugstores
and medicines ... and sometimes due to very primitive conditions.
So we needed something that was easy to use, effective as all
get-out and could be mastered even by children -- mine were still
pre-teens, at the time. The acupressure methods I was teaching
myself and my family during our travels fit our needs perfectly!
After several dramatic successes both on the road and after we
returned home, I decided to spend the rest of my life helping
others become more health self-sufficient, too. I would do that
by sharing this remarkable technique with anyone who would listen.
But most people thought I was nuts!
"If this method really works, why doesn't EVERYbody already know
about it?" -- that was a question I was regularly asked. I tried
to explain that this was mostly a Chinese family healing technique
-- but China was a place Americans couldn't even visit, at the
time.
Finally, I began teaching small classes and workshops at the
only places which would have me: In a South Florida "growth center"
called "Cornucopia"; and several, very liberal churches.
Most of my students were local hippies and New Age seekers of
esoteric knowledge. But in one of my 1976 workshops, a participant
revealed he had a contact in Jackson Memorial Hospital, at the
Family Practice clinic of the University of Miami's School of
Medicine. Would I be interested in speaking to a group of doctors?
WOULD I?? Absolutely!
I was elated! I would finally be speaking to some true health
care professionals -- people who could bring this ancient healing
art into the widespread use I envisioned!
He arranged for me to give a lunchtime presentation, there, for
the doctors in training and residency. During my short lecture,
I explained about acupressure and presented them information about
how it apparently worked. I reviewed some of its many, reported
benefits -- details and information I thought doctors would naturally
want to hear.
Yet I was only met with yawns, dull eyes and body language that
told me I wasn't getting through to the packed cafeteria.
I was trying to speak to them at their level, using scientific
or medical terms, whenever possible. But I was beginning to realize
these doctors didn't really have much interest in learning something
"new" (even though it was actually much older than the medicine
they were now practicing).
I suddenly understood that mine was just another lecture --
one of the many they'd had to endure on the long and difficult
road to their practice of medicine.
Finally, as a last resort, I began to treat them as just another
group of students: I had them follow along as I found and triggered
G-Jo point #13 -- between the thumb and forefinger on the back
of the hand (see illustration at
www.g-jo.com/points.html
in our free "Mini Crash-Course" in G-Jo Acupressure).
Moments later, one of the doctors actually leaped up from his
seat, an amazed look on his face! "Hey," he practically shouted
to the group -- "I just got rid of a toothache that I didn't even
know I had!" From that moment on, they paid rapt attention to
my message and followed closely along as I demonstrated five more
of their bodies' most important acupressure points.
By the time I finished my presentation, they were asking questions
and truly wanted to know more. The ice had finally been broken!
I now knew that if I could reach even doctors (the hardest of
all skeptics to convince, believe me) by having them simply put
their hands on themselves, I could surely reach "ordinary people"
in the same way! But I had neither the time nor the resources
to continue doing small workshops, at least if I wanted to reach
my goal of making G-Jo Acupressure as popular as aspirin.
I walked out of that gathering with a new sense of confidence
and a clearing vision of what my next steps needed to be: I would
have to write a real book, then use the mass media to reach a
suffering world. There was no other way!
Continued in the next issue ...

TESTIMONIAL DU JOUR:
"After trying G-Jo point #115 as described in a
magazine article, I was amazed at how quickly my allergy symptoms
disappeared. Normally, my friend's cats have me sneezing from
the moment I arrive at his house, but after applying the first
G-Jo technique in the article, I managed to be "Bless-You"-free
for the entire evening." A.M., Canada

NEWS AND SPECIAL OFFERS:
URGENT WARNING -- ACT NOW! Fight the upcoming
Senate bill to expand the powers of the FDA! S.722 -- the so-called
"Dietary Supplement 'Safety' Act" -- if passed, will drastically
limit your access to vitamins, nutritional supplements, health
foods and other essentials for many health-seeking individuals.
This is part of a much larger attack on our freedom
of choice -- one which, if successful, will overturn the hard-fought
victory of the "Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of
1994." The source of this conspiracy is the UN's vile Codex Alimentarius
Commission -- a thinly-disguised front for Big Medicine's world-wide
plot to destroy any and all drugless health alternatives.

From The G-Jo Institute
Yoga classes have become extremely popular, in recent
years. But what few people realize is that yoga's stretches and
bends are just the "iceberg's tip" of a massive system of thought
and action whose roots go back countless generations.
Not a religion, yoga is a spiritual science whose
goal is the upliftment and transformation of the mind. To accomplish
this, a variety of little-known truths and simple practices are
combined to hoist oneself to the peak of his or her potential.
And for more than 5,000 years, people following
the pathway of "spiritual yoga" have turned to "The Bhagavad-Gita"
for inspiration, guidance and wisdom on their journey. Here, millions
have learned about such mysterious concepts as "karma," "reincarnation,"
"enlightenment" and many other beliefs which have become staples
of The East.
Now you, too, can learn yoga's profound secrets
-- for free, at your own computer terminal -- with weekly passages
from Michael Blate's "A Yogi Explains 'The Bhagavad-Gita': Enlightenment
for the New Millennium." Each Tuesday, a new, thought-provoking
excerpt is delivered by e-mail to a special list of spiritual
seekers.

AN INTRODUCTION TO YOUR
G-JO POINTS:
G-Jo Acupressure Point Number 5
MERIDIAN POINT NUMBER: Urinary Bladder 60
(BL-60 or III 60)
CHINESE NAME: "Kunlun Mountains" (or "Lower
Kunlun Mountains" -- these translations are taken from "Grasping
The Wind," by Andrew Ellis, Nigel Wiseman and Kenn Boss; Paradigm
Publications)
LOCATION: In the hollow (or valley) behind
the crown of the OUTER ankle bone (medial malleolus), in the soft
area between that protrusion and the achilles tendon (which runs
up the back of the foot).
USES: This very powerful and broadacting
point has at least 40 uses, two of which are for lower back pain
and to relieve pain from being struck or kicked in the testicles
(especially helpful for our many martial artist readers to know).
INSTRUCTIONS: To find this point upon yourself,
first sit down and reach down behind the outer ankle bone. Then,
using the TIP of the thumb, the bent knuckle of the index (or
pointer) finger -- even the eraser tip of a pencil -- begin pressing
in the deepest part of the hollow behind that ankle bone and the
achilles tendon.
Probe for the tender "ouch point." Use deep pressure
-- up to 15 lbs. might be needed to both find and "trigger" this
(and many other) G-Jo points. The point itself, once contacted,
will feel like a toothache or pinched nerve -- definitely more
tender than the surrounding flesh ... especially if you are suffering
from a problem that this point "controls."
Finally, trigger (deeply massage) this spot in a
digging, goading way for a few seconds. Again, it should feel
a bit painful. For more complete instructions plus illustrated
examples of six important G-Jo points, go to www.g-jo.com/points.html
and take our free "Mini Crash-Course in G-Jo Acupressure."
G-Jo Point #5, and nearly 200 others, are fully

KNOW YOUR ORGANS:
URINARY BLADDER (continued) ...
As we discovered in an earlier issue, the urinary
bladder -- the "wife" organ of the kidneys -- is closely related
to sexual activities. Various sexual problems -- such as "retained
climax" in either males or females -- or sexual intercourse without
fulfillment, can injure this organ team.
For this and other reasons, ancient healers suggested
that sexual activity be restricted to those with whom one shares
love and feelings of intimacy, rather than pursuing a life of
sexual freedom and promiscuity with random partners.
In the East, it is often said that sex is one of
the most karmic or "binding" of all activities, since it creates
attachment and "unfinished business" between the partners. This
reinforces the suggestion that sex be restricted to "right" partners
only. (For a more indepth understanding of the binding power of
karma upon our lives, you may wish to subscribe to our weekly
transmission of "A Yogi Explains 'The Bhagavad-Gita' -- see
details above.)
This highlights the close connection between health,
spirituality and lifestyle that is such an important part of the
holistic, traditional Eastern viewpoint.
The urinary bladder is further injured by standing
or kneeling to excess, by sitting on damp ground or from lifting
excessively heavy objects. In fact, any activity which abuses
or injures the lower back will also take its toll on the urinary
bladder (and because of that, the kidneys).
Conversely, any treatment for lower back pain or
distress will, by necessity, also affect the kidney-urinary bladder
team, since they are essentially inseparable.
As the wife of the kidneys, the psychoemotional
function associated with this organ team is "restraint" -- like
the brakes on a car. In good health, this manifests itself as
"consideration before acting" ... and caution or even refusal
to act, when called for.
But as the abuses against these organs mount, this
natural drive is distorted and begins manifesting itself as fear,
timidity, nervousness, lack of self-confidence, etc.
Bottom line: When those fearful qualities are present
to excess, treatment of the urinary bladder, and its mate, may
be called for.
To be continued ...
All the body's major organs and glands, along with their many
functions, are completely described in the Advanced G-Jo section
of "The Master of G-Jo Acupressure Home-Study Certification Program."
