OUR DIRECTOR'S
COMMENTARY:
In our earlier issues, I've told you some of the history and
a few interesting facts about G-Jo Acupressure. Now, I'd like
to start exploring some of the deeper "nitty-gritty" of this ancient
-- or really this TIMELESS -- self-help technique.
In many ways, G-Jo Acupressure points are not unlike keys on
your computer keyboard. Push one key, this happens; push another,
that happens.
Through a complex system of wires and signals, a little fingertip
pressure far removed from the computer's screen, CPU or diskdrive
can make great things occur: A book produced ... a business deal
done ... a letter to a friend or loved one ...
Consider your body as the "computer," and your G-Jo points as
the "keys." On that basis, something wonderful can also occur
-- relief from sometimes even longstanding suffering.
G-Jo, as you may recall, is the least sophisticated form of acupuncture
without needles. And it relies on fewer than 200 of the body's
more than 1200 known acupuncture points to perform its undeniable
magic.
G-Jo points are the tiny therapy spots that respond best to both
self- and therapist-applied pressure ... pressure which is applied
in a deep, digging or goading kind of "triggering."
What separates a G-Jo acupoint from all other acupoints? Two
features, really:
- First, most G-Jo points have a broadacting quality, in that
they usually have at least half a dozen -- and often many more
-- healing uses ...
- Then, a G-Jo point is normally easy enough to both find and
trigger yourself for treating various symptoms, dysfunctions
and ailments.
These are important qualities, since many acupuncture points
are either difficult to find or have only a few, known uses. And
sometimes they suffer from BOTH shortcomings.
Most common ailments that respond to drugstore or OTC remedies
will respond equally well -- and in many cases, better -- to G-Jo
Acupressure, if it is properly performed. Knowing the "best" point(s)
for the particular symptom or ailment is, of course, very important.
(These are taught in our "Master of G-Jo Acupressure Home-Study
Certification Program -- see details
here .)
But some points are "better" -- more broadacting -- than others,
making them good "first points to try." This is especially true
if you have no idea which points to use for an ailment.
One such acupoint is G-Jo point #9, the subject of this issue.
It is known in Chinese as "tsu san li," or "Walk Three Miles,"
since this seemingly omnipotent acupoint is said to give an exhausted
person enough energy to even "walk three more miles."
In acupuncture (energy medicine) terminology, G-Jo Point #9 is
more commonly known as Stomach Meridian Point 36.
There are no fewer than four dozen(!) uses commonly ascribed
to this powerful acupoint. These range from constipation and bowel
distress to tachycardia, prostate disorders and pneumonia.
Plus, G-Jo point #9 is often useful in treating eye problems,
lower back distress, colds and influenza, and nearly any ailment
of the gastrointestinal system. And like G-Jo Point #7 (described
in issue number 7 of this publication and which is often used
in combination with #9), G-Jo #9 is a first choice for easing
distress in both the internal and external sexual organs.
In fact, G-Jo #9 may be used in conjunction with nearly any other
acupressure point for treating problems between the toes and upper
abdomen. It is the great point for indigestion.
Intestinal and peptic ulcers, pain in the middle and lower parts
of the body, knee and leg problems, hip and gall bladder distress,
itchiness of the skin -- these can all respond favorably when
G-Jo point #9 is triggered.
Because of its effects upon the body's lower organs, and in particular,
the kidneys, people suffering from fear and stress (which is described
as a nagging, low-level fear that has no apparent rationale) may
find relief with point #9. In energy medicine, such stressful
feelings are often ascribed to imbalanced functioning of the kidneys
and urinary bladder.
In short, this is a point for "guts," both physically (the entire
gut) and emotionally (to calm stress).
The downside: This point is rather more difficult to locate than
many other G-Jo acupoints. Yet with a little practice, this could
become one of the several "first choice" G-Jo acupoints for MANY
health problems.
Specifically, G-Jo #9 will be found in the depression or trough
that runs parallel to the front of the shinbone. It is to the
outside (lateral aspect) of that bone, about the width of one
hand -- measured across the knuckles -- beyond, or distal to,
the bottom of the kneecap (patella), toward the foot.
Once you are pressing in that general area, probe deeply for
the spot buried in that trough between the shinbone and calf muscle.
You must normally use the bent knuckle of the pointer finger or
the eraser tip of a pencil, not just light fingertip pressure,
both to find and trigger this point effectively.
All G-Jo Acupressure is done bilaterally (that is, on either
side of the body) unless the point lies atop the frontal or spinal
"meridian" or line of energy conductivity. Once you have located
the point, trigger it in the deep, goading, slightly painful massage
that separates G-Jo from most of the other forms of acupressure.
Keep working the point deeply for a few seconds until an "acupressure
reaction" -- a feeling of warmth, clamminess, perspiration, etc.
-- occurs. Nearly everyone gets such a reaction, in one form or
another.
But even if you're one of the few people who doesn't experience
an acupressure reaction, the point normally need not be triggered
for more than a minute, or two, to produce beneficial results.
Just make sure the point hurts a bit as you trigger it.
And the more tender the point feels -- even to light pressure
-- the better it is likely to be for "what ails you."
G-Jo Acupressure is applied symptomatically -- that is, as soon
as a symptoms manifests themselves. If this is a good (effective)
point, by the time you've finished triggering the spot, you should
notice a distinct sense of relief.
While the target symptom(s) may eventually return, you should
immediately reapply G-Jo to the "best" (most effective) point(s).
Then, you should enjoy increasing spans of "relief time," as the
power of G-Jo Acupressure restores balance to your ailing body:
To an energy doctor, increasingly longer periods of relief indicate
that healing is in process.
Unlike the "masking" effects of certain pain-killers, G-Jo Acupressure
is actually therapeutic. That is, G-Jo "forces" your bodymind
to call forth its own, natural healing powers ... often within
seconds.
If you do not receive benefits from the process, it usually means:
- You are using the wrong acupressure point (keep trying others
until you find one that works) ...
- You're not doing the process properly -- did you actually
find the tiny-but-tender point, and work it deeply enough?;
- Or your ailment may be more serious than it seems.
Obviously, it's then time to take the next step and seek professional
help. This remarkably simple technique has been a mainstay of
Oriental families for thousands of years. Today, the basic knowledge
of using these acupressure points is one effective way of bridging
the gap between the traditional wisdom of the Eastern way of healing
and the marvels of Western science.
And, by the way, an illustration of G-Jo point #9 (as well as
five, other powerful G-Jo points) can be found in our free "Mini
Crash-Course" in G-Jo Acupressure at www.g-jo.com/points.html

TESTIMONIAL DU JOUR:
"I have used G-Jo acupressure point #13 several
times for headaches for myself and others and this brings almost
immediate relief nearly every time. Recently, I had a very bad
case of hay fever. My girlfriend kept giving me strong medication
for sinus and allergies but nothing brought relief till I tried
point #13 and was amazed at the relief that this brought. I was
very impressed. I can say for sure that G-Jo acupressure truly
works." C.W., Lufkin, TX

AN INTRODUCTION TO YOUR
G-JO POINTS:
G-Jo Acupressure Point Number 9
MERIDIAN POINT NUMBER: Stomach 36 (ST-36
/ XI 36)
ORGAN(S) THIS POINT AFFECTS: Colon; stomach;
small intestine; kidneys; urinary bladder; Triple Warmer;
ACTION THIS POINT PRODUCES: Stimulating (colon);
balancing (stomach; urinary bladder); sedating (small intestine;
Triple Warmer).
CHINESE NAME: "Three Leg Li" (or "Walk Three
Miles" or many others -- these translations are taken from "Grasping
The Wind," by Andrew Ellis, Nigel Wiseman and Kenn Boss; Paradigm
Publications)
LOCATION: As described above, the width of
one hand below the bottom of the kneecap; then the width of one
thumb toward the OUTSIDE of the leg (direction of the small toe).
Found in the trough or valley just away from the front edge of
the bone (tibia or "shin bone").
USES: This G-Jo point has at least 80 Basic
G-Jo uses; it is particularly effective for many problems from
the upper abdomen to the feet. This point is often used alone
or in conjunction with other points -- especially G-Jo Point Number
7 -- for these ailments and disorders. See above.
INSTRUCTIONS: G-Jo Point Number 9 is possibly
the most potent acupressure point on the entire body, at least
based on the number of uses listed for it. But it is also one
of the more difficult acupressure points to find.
To locate this powerful point upon yourself, use
the TIP of the thumb, the bent knuckle of the index (or pointer)
finger -- even the eraser tip of a pencil -- and begin probing
the "valley" between the front of the shin bone and the calf muscle,
about four inches below the bottom of the kneecap.
Use deep pressure -- up to 15 or 20 lbs.
might be needed to both to find and "trigger" this G-Jo point.
Typically, this will be a deep, dull, aching sensation (like a
toothache) rather than the sharp, twinging sensation of various
other points -- such as G-Jo number 7 -- which are found closer
to the skin. G-Jo number 9 is buried DEEPLY beneath the skin.
Finally, trigger (deeply massage) this spot in a
digging, goading way for a few seconds. Again, it should feel
a bit painful. Then find and trigger the same spot on the opposite
side of the body.
G-Jo Point #9, and nearly 200 others, are fully
illustrated and described in "The Master of G-Jo Acupressure Home-Study
Certification Program." Purchase
this low-cost, fully guaranteed program now by going here....
Or you can reach us by regular mail or phone, via

newsletter.

Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing
education provider. The "Master of G-Jo Acupressure Home-Study

A WAY OF EATING FOR PLEASURE
AND HEALTH: Each issue, we present a wholesome, nutritious
recipe which our family, friends and guests have enjoyed over
the years at both Falkynor Farm, and more recently, here, at DeerHaven
Hills Farm & Yoga Eco-Center. This issue's presentation is a hearty,
satisfying dish we usually serve in the fall or winter:
ACORN SQUASH WITH TOFU STUFFING
Serves 6
3 acorn squash
1 lb. of tofu
3/4 cup brown rice flour
½ tsp. sea salt and pepper to taste
1 medium onion -- or 6-8 green onions -- chopped
1 large red or green bell pepper, chopped
1/3 cup chopped, fresh parsley
1 cup cooked millet or brown rice
½ cup chopped walnuts
½ cup commercial taco sauce -- "medium" or "hot," to taste
Stuffing:
In a large bowl, crumble the tofu, then add the
rice flour, salt and pepper. Toss until the tofu is well-coated
with flour. Place enough vegetable oil in a large skillet to cover
the bottom. Heat oil until hot, but not smoking. Add the mixture
and fry on medium heat until the tofu is crisp and golden brown
-- stir frequently. Add the onions and bell peppers; saute until
tender. Add the parsley, grain, walnuts and taco sauce, and mix
well.
Squash:
Wash and cut the acorn squash in half; remove the
seeds and place each half in a large steamer. Steam until almost
done but still firm; remove from the heat, uncover and set aside.
Spoon the stuffing into the center of each squash half; place
them in a large baking dish or pan with a little water in the
bottom. Bake at 350 degrees F. for about 30 minutes or until the
squash is tender. Garnish with tomato wedges and parsley sprigs.
Serves six.

KNOW YOUR ORGANS:
THE STOMACH:
This organ is the "wife" of the spleen/pancreas
in acupuncture theory. The stomach and spleen/pancreas are also
known as "earth organs" because of their connection with food,
earth and "centrality" in the so-called "Five Elements" theory.
The stomach, itself, is located immediately below
the ribcage and mostly to the left of the body's mid-line. It
has the physical function of preparing food -- through the process
of ripening and "rotting" -- for easy breakdown into "replacement
energy."
As mentioned in the discussion of the spleen/pancreas,
this "type" of bioenergy partially restores that which is "lost"
(expelled or driven out of the system back into the universe)
through activity, thought and other human functions.
As you may recall, also in acupuncture theory, each
organ pair or team has a number "children." These are physiological
aspects as well as psychological functions which are directly
related to, and dependent upon, the healthful functioning of that
child's "parents." Put a bit differently, when the parents are
"quarreling" or unhealthy, the children tend to misbehave.
The stomach-spleen/pancreas mated pair of organs
have the following as just several of their many children:
- The fleshy cells (fat cells) located between the skin (which
is primarily a child of the lung-colon team), and the muscles
(liver/gall bladder team) ...
- The tongue (also related to the heart team) ...
- The sinuses ...
- The emotional or personality quality known as "ego" ...
- The connecting tissues ...
- The second toe ...
... and there are also other children "produced by" the stomach
and the spleen/pancreas interacting.
To be continued ....
All the body's major organs and glands, along with their many
functions, are completely described in the Advanced G-Jo section
of "The Master of G-Jo Acupressure Home-Study Certification Program."
